Pediatric Therapies FAQs
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Your child may benefit from an evaluation by a pediatric therapist if you have concerns about your child’s overall development in thinking and learning, communicating, playing, and moving. You, your therapist, and pediatrician will discuss the concerns and create a plan for addressing your child’s needs.
What is Natural Environment?
Natural environment is any place your child spends a significant amount of time with family and friends during growth and development. This is your home, family-member’s homes, schools and daycares, parks and playgrounds, and other places in the community where your child needs to have access and independence.
Does TLC offer clinic and on campus services to my child at school?
TLC offers medical based pediatric therapy in a private clinic setting, in the natural environment and on campus at school during the day for patients with an IEP.
How do Home-Based/Natural Environment therapies help my child?
The greatest ability to learn and progress can be gained in the child’s own home or other natural environment setting, as this is the place where your child spends the majority of time playing, learning, and moving. Your child’s day-to-day routines with family support during therapy interactions will promote confidence, independence, and create opportunities for growth.
What services does TLC Pediatric Therapy offer?
TLC Pediatric Therapy offers pediatric physical, occupational, and speech and language therapies. We are a useful resource for many of your child’s needs including early intervention, behavior, advocacy in the school-system, assistive technologies and adaptive equipment, and other community supports and activities.
What time is available for therapy services to be scheduled?
Your therapist will contact you about the availability in scheduling. TLC therapists routinely provide services beyond normal office hours, incorporating before- and after-school time frames.
What areas does TLC Pediatric Therapy cover?
TLC Pediatric Therapy provides therapy to families in Orange, northern Osceola, and southern Seminole counties.
How is therapy funded?
TLC Pediatric Therapy accepts most state insurances, private insurances, and private pay. If you have questions about obtaining funding or about the coverage of therapy services, call the office for more information.
What is the process for obtaining authorization for therapy services from Medicaid/CMS? How long does this process take?
Medicaid and CMS require a prescription from your pediatrician for evaluation. When received, a state-licensed and Medicaid- or CMS-enrolled therapist performs an assessment and testing to develop a Plan of Care with your pediatrician. This process typically takes 7-10 days. Once the Plan of Care is signed by both your therapist and pediatrician, an authorization request is submitted. The total timeline for evaluation and authorization is a minimum of 3-4 weeks.
Is TLC Pediatric Therapy an Early Steps Provider?
Yes. TLC Pediatric Therapy works closely with Early Steps of Central Florida and Orlando Health to provide therapy services and resources for families with children from age 0 to 3 years.
Can I pay for therapy services online and can I pay with a credit card?
Yes, you can pay your therapy invoices online. TLC Pediatric Therapy accepts all major credit cards and electronic check payments with the secure processing of PayPal.
Who do I contact if I have questions about my child’s therapy?
You can call the TLC Pediatric Therapy main office any time to discuss your child and the therapy services you are receiving. You can ask for the Health- or Therapy Director as a resource for your child’s needs.
